For twenty-nine years, the Dallas Breakfast Group (DBG)  has had a unique mission – to increase participation by Dallas-area business executives and civic leaders in local elections and local affairs.

Several of Dallas’ leading business leaders established the Dallas Breakfast Group in 1986 to help identify and support quality candidates running for the Dallas City Council, the Dallas School Board, and the Dallas County Community College District’s Board of Trustees.  They also sought out qualified individuals for City of Dallas boards and commissions.

Over the years, the organization has also served as a vehicle for business leaders to meet with local elected and governmental officials in an informal manner.

Members join the Dallas Breakfast Group because of their interest in Dallas civic and political affairs.  They support the general principle that the quality of the candidates who seek local office do impact the quality of our local governmental institutions.

Breakfast candidate forums are held each year with candidates seeking election to the Dallas City Council, Dallas School Board or the Dallas County Community College District’s Board of Trustees. The DBG is the only business-focused organization in Dallas to host forums for members with candidates running for these elected positions.

More issues-oriented meetings are held at other times of the year with the focus on local issues such as economic development, transportation, water and local civic engagement. The organization also invites local elected and business leaders to provide updates to members. Past speakers recently have included Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Miles, Dallas City Manager A.C. Gonzalez, Dallas Federal Reserve President (and original DBG member) Richard Fisher, and former U.S. Senator (and also an original DBG member) Kay Bailey Hutchison.

In addition to the programs, members are also provided a regular newsletter on local political activities and a news clipping service on City of Dallas, Dallas ISD and DCCCD activities.

All meetings are breakfast meetings held at the Rosewood Crescent Hotel.  The schedule of meetings will vary depending on the time of year.  During the campaign season several meetings a month might be held.  During other times, meetings occur every four to six weeks.
